Chico Xavier (1910-2002) was born Francisco de Paula Candido in Brazil. Chico was a medium and author writing over 400 books. Xavier publicly declared that his books were channelled from spirit. Xavier was very popular in Brazil and appeared numerous TV talk shows in the 60s and 70s. Despite suffering from ill health toward the end of his life Xavier continued to work up until his death in 2002.

William Crookes (1832-1919) passes into higher life. Crookes was a chemist and physicist. In around 1870 he ventured into researching physical phenomena having already formed a belief in life after death. Given his background as a scientist his investigations took on a scientific perspective. Crookes set up rigid test conditions, conducting séances in his own home and investigating some of the most noted mediums of the day including DD Home, Kate Fox and Florence Cook. Crookes was President of the Society for Psychical Research from 1896-99. Crookes died in London.

On Friday 13 April 1934 the London BBC transmitted the first open discussion on Spiritualism. The speaker, Mr Ernest Oaten, a union leader and spiritualist advocate was chosen as the representative of the spiritualist movement. His speech was entitled “What I believe”.

15 Apr 1912
William Thomas Stead (1849-1912). Stead passes into higher life when The Titanic sunk in the Atlantic Ocean. Stead was a successful and well respected journalist and staunch advocate for spiritualism. Stead was travelling to America to meet with an American medium and escort her back to the UK where she to tour Great Britain demonstrating her mediumship.
Stead had previously published 2 separate stories regarding ships sinking. An article he wrote in 1892 “From the Old World to the New” tells the story of a ship called the Majestic. One of the passengers on board was a clairvoyant who predicts a disaster to another ship that has collided with an iceberg. Did Stead realise he was describing his own future.
There are differing versions as to what happened to Stead on the Titanic however the eye witness account I think most fitting for the humanitarian that Stead was describes him assisting women and children into life boats before he retired to the First Class Smoking Room where he sat quietly reading a book.
Stead had a keen interest in all areas of spiritualism including spirit photography, and he was able to assist from the spirit world with the famous armistice day photograph of 1922.
There are memorials to Mr WT Stead in Central Park, New York and Victoria Embankment, London.

Leslie Flint (1911-1994) passes into higher life. Leslie was a gifted physical medium and he gave his first public demonstration in 1935. Today there are over 500 tapes of Leslie’s séances with the voices of loved ones and famous personalities returning to prove the existence of life beyond the veil. In Leslie’s autobiography he describes the process of communication made possible through the use of an ectoplasmic voicebox.

25 Apr 1833
John Ross (1833-1920) was born in Inverness-shire, Scotland. John emigrated to Australian in 1962 and his interest in spiritualism began in the late 1860s and in 1875 he was appointed president of the Melbourne Spiritualist and Freethought Association and by 1880 he was President of the Victorian Association of Spiritualists.
